Snowmass Blue Divine (we call him Blue) is a modern rose grey - might not be SUPER obvious in this picture but yes folks - modern he is and in the knick of time. I have some pretty outstanding modern studs but we were needing another cross and this guy fits the bill perfectly... In 2015, he had an AFD of 16.6 / SD 4.1 In 2016, he had an AFD of 15.5 / SD 3.1 In 2017, he had an AFD of 14.7 / SD 3.2 So, every year, he got finer. And is he dense? Yes, he is. A 2018 biopsy by Ian Watt confirms it: With 91.8 follicles/sqmm, Blue is the densest male Ian has tested that is darker than light fawn. According to the database, he is the 4th densest, period. (Biopsy under "Histogram.") Is he likely to pass it on? Well, his full brother's histogram numbers are similar, so I think so. Blue's pedigree is a serious study in careful line-breeding, with 3x Hemingway, 2x Legacy, 3x Bueno and the great Maree Love twice, somewhat close-up. Despite this, his lineage is extremely genetically diverse. As a rare son of the great Snowmass Divine Love, who was recently exported and whose lineage has been carefully guarded, he is an outstanding outcross to most all of our herd -- and to most other elite lineages. Then, of course, he wouldn't be here if he wasn't a darned handsome guy to look at. He's got the head. He's got bone, coverage, a nice, deep body and an ultra-compact, boxy stature -- and TONS of presence. This guy is on lockdown as he hasn't performed quite yet so this year (2023) he has dates... a number of them. By 2024, we should have a good look at how he is doing. More to come. He did sire a male out of my loaded modern grey female (Inga Cloud/Cupid/Bomber/Silver Lining) and the little guy looks amazing (b. 2023; named Shogun). When this little girl was born, she was a limp lump in the middle of the barn. And for 2 days she remained that way. If supported she would nurse. And her Mom, a gorgeous modern grey from Renaissance Ranch; Etta James was the MOST patient and agreeable momma. It was a Mystery. Hence the name. I supplemented a bit. I continued to support her. We took all her vitals but could not figure out why she couldn't support herself AT ALL. I had missed the birth - mom was about 2 weeks earlier than expected. So I figured something must have happened in that process. She did look a tiny bit swollen around the eyes. I let my imagination sort of guide my next steps. A friend suggested maybe she just had a whopping headache. LOL Which was sort of funny but worth some consideration. So against all odds and against most of the recommendations I had gotten, I gave the tiny girl a small hit of banamine. Lo and Behold - it worked. 5 minutes. She was up nursing and romping around the pen like magic. Mysterious indeed. She has turned into a very fine fleeced black with some decent density and ample staple length. Her bone is solid and her conformation pretty darn perfect. Her Daddy is a very celebrated fawn; RR Touchstone and she certainly got the best of him and the best of her Mom. She has a very slight white goatee; a reference I think to her Mom's roan. We call her Little Miss. And Im happy to have her. Only shown once, she received a very respectable third in a pretty competitive class of blacks at GWAS. Im excited to breed her - probably end of summer 2023. Little Miss is a doll. Updated pictures coming soon! 2022 Fiber Results: 18.2/4.3/23.8 with a 99.4% CF 2023: 21.2/4.1/19.1 with a 97.3% SF I would call that improvement for year 2. And her presence! :) Healthy as a horse.
